Ce Ce Chin is an accessories designer who's quickly becoming known for her signature cocktail of major-label craft and street-level attitude. Chin moved to NY in 1994, and cut her teeth designing for powerhouses like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and DKNY. But all along, she felt that something was missing.
And that something was the perfect shoe. The shoe for the girl who's finally over tomboy sneakers and skateboarder boyfriends…well almost. So, last year, Chin burst onto the scene with Eighty Twenty, her new footwear company. The idea came from her observation that people tend to wear their favorite 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time- and these shoes are definitely a part of the 20% you just can't live without.
Sure, she mused, there were shoes out there, but none of them were just right. This one was too boyish--that one felt (and looked) like a bed of nails. Where was that Goldilocks shoe that was playfully comfortable and still made you feel cute? Since she couldn't find it, she decided to make it herself.
For Spring/Summer '05, Chin stepped up with a heady remix on canvas sneakers that's turning heads at rooftop soirees and downtown street corners everywhere. Ten sassy styles put a sexy spin on the infamous "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" slip on. 80's graphics like rainbows and hearts grab that sticker collector within.
Unsurprisingly, Chin's sneakers are being snapped up by a growing list of A-list stores including Kitson in LA, Conveyor at Fred Segal Santa Monica and Shop in NY's Lower East Side.
Now that Chin has given us the little black dress of sneakers, she's only going to build from there- so keep your eyes on Eighty Twenty for more style essentials.
