Belstaff Jacket & Clothes Section:

Back in 1924, Harry Grosberg and his father in law, Eli Belovitch, pooled their talents to produce, for the era, an unparallel collection of waterproofs. Sturdily constructed and cleverly designed to combat the worst of the British weather, these prototypes of today's extensive range soon caught the popular imagination.

Based in Stoke-on-Trent, England, they made capes, leggings, rucksacks, haversacks as well as top quality waterproof clothing for men and women. Progress was swift and sure and in 1927 they began manufacturing their now famous motorcycle clothing from a double texture material, and to quote Harry and Eli, “demand was most encouraging”.

By 1930, the business became a limited company, the Belstaff® Manufacturing Company, the name part borrowed from Eli's name and from the county in which it all began, Staffordshire. In 1948, Belstaff® joined the James Halstead Group of Companies. Fashions came and went but Belstaff® maintained its pre-eminent position in the marketplace.

In 1953 the first Black Prince Motorcycle Suit was made, a design so advanced that production peaked at 40,000 suits per year and it stayed in production for over 2 decades, followed by its successor, Trialmaster®, peaking at 80,000 suits per year.

The Trialmaster® was first offered in Black or Olive. The Trialmaster suit set many standards unsurpassed even today, boasting:

• Pivotal armholes for better forward rotation
• Pre curved sleeves for improved fir and comfort during riding
• Shower proof lining to avoid migration of wax coating from penetrating the inside of the jacket
• Highest quality Egyptian cotton which absorbs the natural oils for a more durable life
• Matching trousers that have double layers for comfort and strength and a non-wicking bottom leg liner to avoid water seepage from road spray.

Belstaff continue to use only the finest quality fabrics and accessories which have made it famous throughout the world. This is the reason why Belstaff jackets have kept their value through the years; jackets made in the 50s and 60s are eagerly being sought by enthusiasts and are kept as trophies by real motorcyclists.
