Earl Jean was created in 1996 in Los Angeles out of pure necessity. For years there had been a void in the denim market for a low slung, slim fitting jean for women. The result, Earl Jean's style #55, created an immediate sensation and soon a buzz began spreading throughout the fashion and entertainment industry.

Earl Jean is the creation of Suzanne Costas. Born in the 1960's and living in California, Suzanne Costas worked as a television and film stylist.

Suzanne Costas set up Earl Jean in Los Angeles in 1996 after 10 years of careful consideration. What she she wanted was to make the sort of bootcut jeans that she wanted to wear but unfortunately could not find. Earl Jean are therefore a girl's denim, mostly slim-legged, low slung and sexy.

Earl Jean style 55 denims are more of an "LA" style: laid back but with a perfect fit. The range features corduroy, velvet and leather, with brightly coloured cotton tanks and shrunken T-shirts.

Earl Jean present  a style and look which is perfect for life on the West Coast of the United States. With its big success however, Earl Jean gradually moved out into the rest of the world. Earl Jean products are now available in leading speciality and department stores across the United States, Europe and Japan including Barneys New York, Saks Fifth Avenue and Harvey Nichols in London.

In October 2000 the first freestanding Earl Jean boutique opened in Los Angles followed by a shop in Tokyo. The Soho shop in New York opened in November 2001 and Osaka, Japan in March 2002. From Fall 2002, men were able to get their own Earl Jeans as well.

Jeans by Earl Jean are casual enough for daytime activities, but can also be more sophisticated when paired up with a Gucci jacket, or a cashmere V-neck.

Celebrities such as Cindy Crawford and Courtney Cox like wearing Earl Jean denim.
