GRIFFIN

Griffin Clothes - Griffin Jackets Jeff Griffin is the designer behind Griffin. He graduated from St. Martins with distinction in his Master of Arts degree in 1990.

Biography.

Jeff Griffin is the designer behind Griffin. He graduated from St. Martins with distinction in his Master of Arts degree in 1990. He initially worked in Italy with such labels as Valentino and Americanino, but was head-hunted to design and launch the 'Voyage' label.

From this success came the inspiration for his own label collection, which initially launched under the name ' Griffin laundry' in June 1993.

Concept.

Griffin designs are as conceptual as they are functional; they are at the cutting edge of technology with a touch of the hand-made. Griffin interprets classic military design, and gives it an innovative utilitarian twist. This is combined with a creative usage of fabrics through dying techniques, washes and finishes to give garments their own, unique Griffin identity.

' Griffin laundry' has been re-introduced as a rawer, purer alternative to Griffin, and is a label which reflects modern living, focusing on natural fabrics, detail and washes.

Philosophy.

Griffin is about questioning and challenging the restraints of society, always kicking against the acceptable. Thought provoking and political stances taken by Griffin, such as anti- war and anti- establishment, have provided opportunities to work with noted graffiti artists such as banksy, and photomontage artist Peter Kennard.

Griffin 's very personal approach has attracted some of the best international accounts. Internationally, Maxfields, Fred Segal-LA, Selfridges-London and Colette-Paris. Our customer base has a strong music and media following such as, Audio bullies, Banksy, Blur, Coldplay, Gorillaz, Jamie Oliver, Lamb, Miss Dynamite, Oasis, prodigy, Rankin, Radiohead and U2.

Recent collaborations have included working with Stella Artois on the launch of their new product packaging and marketing campaign. This partly involved the production of a limited edition T-shirt, which went on to be worn by music stars throughout the summer music festival season.

Other prestigious collaborations have included working with Sony on special promotional and conceptual products, and the well-known Absolut vodka on their new international marketing campaign.

2000 saw the launch of both the online and concept store on Portobello Road, London. It is this concept store that Griffin has used as a blank canvas for docking and exchanging ideas, as well as showcasing creative expression.

In the same year, Griffin relocated to the Wiltshire countryside, and became an international creative platform for design. Conceptual ideas, promotional and marketing material are all produced by Griffin's culmination of visionary talent. The griffin spectrum is broad, employing fine artists and renowned stylists, graphic designers and sculptors.

Although having been launched only 8 years ago, Griffin Studio now takes on work for Japanese corporations, as well as noted European brands.

In subsequent years Griffin has gone on to push the boundaries between art and fashion, with installations and shows around the world.

The Griffin Tokyo store was opened in August 2003, and most recently Spring 2004 saw the launch of the Griffin womanswear collection, a natural progression of the Griffin philosophy.
