Jag Tops Section:

In 1972 Australians were cramming into cinemas to see The Godfather, Led Zeppelin played their infamous Australian tour and the Jag brand was born. Jag introduced contemporary sportswear designs and re-invented denim, which became an integral part of the brand. The jeans boom of the 70’s thrust Jag into the international fashion spotlight and the early success of the brand inspired all the right people to start talking about Australia and original Australian style.

By the 80’s Jag boasted a star-studded cult following, with celebrities and style icons like Steve McQueen, Jackie Onassis and Bianca Jagger donning JAG jeans at A-list events and dressing them down for weekends out of the spotlight. Wearing Jag became a sign of confidence and individuality and in that respect, not much has changed twenty years on.

Jag’s 2005 design team brings a fresh and unique perspective to the Jag range but the wear-it-anywhere and wear-it-your-way elements of Jag’s original style philosophy remain. Jag’s ability to take denim from the beach in Bondi to the red carpet in Cannes is part of the magic of the fabric and the allure of the brand. Jag is about denim you can live in.

Since 2001 Jag has been owned by the Brisbane-based Colorado Group, an Australian footwear business with a 135-year heritage. Jag’s unique base cloths are often sourced from overseas markets like Japan and Turkey and our designers are no strangers to the fashion scene in Milan, New York or Paris but our whole range is designed in Australia.

If you’ve visited a Jag store lately you may have been greeted with a fresh new look. With the evolution of our product, we’re also taking the opportunity to update their stores and they’re looking forward to introducing you to their new seasonal ranges in bright new spaces to be unveiled nationally over the coming year.

Denim and the Jag brand have definitely come a long way since the 70’s but some things don’t change. Denim is still a wardrobe essential – inexorably linked with music, fashion, individuality and energy – and Jag is still a great Australian denim brand.

Heterophobia ? addressing a controversial mannequin
Does the dominance of gay fashion designers suggest an endemic heterophobic propensity by the fashion illuminati which is manifest in its most insidious form by the pervasive tendency to corrupt the female body image by persisting with anorexic “de-feminised” models as a paradigm of perfection ultimately undermining the male/female synergy? … or perhaps the fashion [...]

Fashion personas a dated phenomenon?
Are fashion personas a dated phenomenon, Girogio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Yohji Yamamoto and so on… ? Has society move beyond worshipping the cult of the personality and up to a more profound level where style is held in higher regard than the hype generated around a single personality.
