1989 All products for all other territories outside Japan were made under license in Europe. That year research was commissioned on the social and the environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry globally. The results of this research were shocking; up to 100,000 people per annum are dying of accidental pesticide poisoning in cotton agriculture. Long-term contamination of aquifers, rivers, sea and air, as well as millions of people working in conditions of slavery.

Katharine tried to change the industry from within with existing licensees and failed, in 2004 Katharine terminated all licenses possible.

2005 Katharine Hamnett has gone back into manufacturing to deliver product conforming to ethical and environmental standards. Having successfully resourced a completely new supply chain that fulfils these criteria under the
KATHARINE E HAMNETT label.

As a matter of personal conscience Katharine Hamnett is committed to only selling clothes that are manufactured ethically and as environmentally as possible and preserving traditional skills.

E is for as ethical and environmental as we can get it.

The collection will launch via an internet shop of the katharinehamnett.com website, followed by wholesale to selected stores and duty free and hoping to open concessions in department stores.
