Emile Camuset is someone who knows how to seize an opportunity.
Born in the late 19th century, this sport lover (gym, cycling then soccer) was responsible for equipping the teams in his region (Romilly/Seine - 10) with athletic gear.
Thrown into the world of sportswear, Emile Camuset, invented the skin-tight jersey and the sweat suit!

He had his first success in 1920.
Mr. Camuset worked with a knitting and hosiery craftsman to produce a line of athletic products.
The products become so well known that people come from Paris and England to buy these original productions.

As an innovator in the 1930s, the company developed new processes used in dyes, raw materials and textile finishing.

Le Coq Sportif brand was officially trademarked in 1948.

During this period, the most important criterion for the brand was apparel quality.
Starting in 1951 became the exclusive supplier for the Tour de France. Cyclists from 12 international teams wore the Coq Sportif jerseys.
At the same time, the brand was outfitting 80% of the African soccer teams..

Roland, the son of Mr. Camuset, started work in the family business in 1949. One year later, LCS trademarked the brand's first logo a rooster in front of the sun, enclosed in a triangle.
As an aside: for those who are interested, find out more about the logo's history here !

1966, a banner year

The Coq Sportif did not stop at dressing athletes. The company wanted to be known and seen!

Result: at the Olympic Games in Rome (1960), spectators discovered the new LCS logo un a rooster on the Olympic rings , specially created for the occasion. All of the French athletes sported it.

For the Tour de France in 1966, Le Coq Sportif was still the exclusive supplier for the cyclists. But this time, the LCS insignia was stitched on the jerseys.

Even the yellow jersey publicized everywhere - carried the insignia!
The same year during the Soccer World Cup at Wembley, the French team sported the new logo on their jerseys.
Since three times is a winner, it was also in 1966 that Le Coq Sportif outfitted the French track and field teams for the Olympic Games in Budapest.
And guess which year saw Ajax Amsterdam wearing LCS? You guessed it, the year they won the soccer Europe Cup, 1970!
