Mon petit oiseau is a small, independent label founded in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. The designer behind this new collection is Tracy Wilkinson, a British native who moved to the United States in 1989. Tracy grew up in Barnsley, a small mining town in the north of England. To escape the unpredicatable summers, her family would cross the channel to Brittany, a coastal region in the north west of France, a favorite of her parents. It was here that she began to love the sweet simplicity of French style, and what became the inspiration for her collection. Tracy studied design at the Royal College of Art in London, earning her masters degree in Fashion Design in 1988. She has worked as a designer for several companies in London, New York and Los Angeles such as Guess and Banana Republic. The first mon petit oiseau pieces were made in summer 1999 when Tracy designed and made some batik tank tops. On seeing these items, a buyer commissioned her to do a series of them for a lingerie department. When they sold out, she began to customize tee shirts and, by request of buyers where the items were sold, Tracy developed a complete sportswear collection that includes cute new denim pieces, jackets, dresses and knit tops. Mon petit oiseau has grown significantly in the last 5 years, gaining a loyal following of customers who love the sweet, delicate look of the line and trade make bird logo.
