PAPER DENIM & CLOTH
Chris Gilbert’s love for denim began at early age. Throughout his childhood, he wore one of a kind jeans, designed by his father, which led to his fascination with denim design. He was also intrigued by breaking down a pair of jeans through natural wear and authentic handcrafting.
After attending college at the University of Virginia as a Business Administration major, Chris moved to Los Angeles to write and produce independent films. Shortly after his venture, Chris decided to follow his true passion, denim. In August of 2001, he became Co-Founder of Paper Denim & Cloth, spending his first two years of the company in the design and development department before moving into his current position of President.
In addition to overseeing Paper’s day to day operations in New York City, Chris is extremely involved in the design and production process. He is responsible for ultimately developing the direction of the denim line from conception to completion. As an avid collector of vintage denim and a true believer in authenticity, Chris has drawn inspiration from his own impressive collection of jeans.
Today at age 28, Chris continues to build and expand on Paper Denim & Cloth’s existing premium denim lines for men, women and children with the spring 2005 collection, and leads the brand to debut it’s most extensive and innovative denim line to date. The basic values and the principles of the brand he originated are consistent in each collection, creating timeless, vintage inspired denim and clothing.
PAPER DENIM & CLOTH COMPANY PROFILE

Paper Denim & Cloth was established in November 1999, and is quickly becoming synonymous with fashion-forward denim styling and impeccable product quality. Paper products have been featured in a variety of international magazines including Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, Wallpaper, Surface, W, GQ and details to name but a few. Stocked by the world’s finest stores such as Fred Segal, Colette, American Rag, Hollywood Ranch Market, Barney’s New York, Ron Herman, Scoop, Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Boston, Harvey Nichols and Saks 5 th Avenue to name but a few, it’s apparent that Paper Denim’s concept of blending contemporary American styling with premium imported denims and authentic hand finishing is right on target.
Paper Denim & Cloth uses premium American, Italian and Japanese ringspun denims, cotton knits, and twills exclusively in its collection. Aside from fit and finish, construction quality and attention to details are the two most important factors in the production of Paper Denim & Cloth jeans, shirts, t-shirts and skirts. Unlike most manufacturers, Paper Denim’s production facilities are limited to a small group of manufacturers and laundries. The total number of Paper Denim products produced each year is extremely limited, undoubtedly adding to the label’s uniqueness and exceptional standards of quality.
PAPER DENIM ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE SERIES
Emerging artists were allowed the opportunity to showcase their ideas in the Artists in Residence Series by collaborating with Paper Denim and Cloth in this series of limited edition prints and graphics.

PAPER DENIM & CLOTH VINTAGE SERIES
The Vintage Series represents a collection of vintage T-shirts inspired from actual designs in the PD and C archives. The goal was to pay homage to our favorite vintage pieces in every way, shape, and form. Paint smudges were painstakingly recreated by hand using q-tips, holes in the neckline were hand-grinded using high speed sanding tools. Even down to the smallest detail of the stitching (speed-hem), was vintage inspired.
Authentic Paper Denim & Cloth jeans and Clothes are available from a select number of websites.
