A New Brand - Bring You Premium Work Wear Inspired Clothing and Footwear

Nathan Swartz, a New England leather craftsman, set up shop in The Abington Shoe Company in 1951 and was later joined in the business by his sons Sidney and Herman in 1955. In those days, the company resembled more a community boot maker and cobbler than the sophisticated manufacturing operation it later became. Emphasis on innovation led to the invention of the waterproof boot; the same iconic yellow boot that remains the heart of the Timberland brand today.

The workers of those early years have inspired the new Timberland Boot Company collection, a premium range of clothing and footwear. Here, finally, is work wear-inspired attire from a company serious about its values and its history, made for people who admire quality, authenticity and classic design that evolves with the seasons. It is rooted in a post-industrial mindset that combines the best traditions of mass manufacture with earlier ideals of craftsmanship — all wrapped up in a culture of community responsibility.

Attention to detail is inherent. Shoes and clothes are hand-crafted, using a process which we call “Worn and Repaired”, which makes each article unique from its brethren. Vintage denim dominates the apparel while antique worker boots and shoes embody the spirit of footwear. Washed leather and canvas jackets, laundered T’s, chukka boots and brogues round out the line.

Timberland Boot Company can be found in its own retail environments, as well as in the cream of the UK’s independent shops. The flagship store occupies an entire house on Fournier Street, East London. It’s a converted banana warehouse in a community rich with creative minds and ethnic diversity; a Georgian conservation area laced with terraced housing and light industrial architecture. A cobbler will work in the Fournier Street flagship store, to customise and repair shoes and boots. Store design is inspired by the heritage of the space: regenerated and recycled materials, like the use of old banana barrows, build a sense of a living space, where the past and present exist as one. Part of the store is thrown open as a platform for local community talent, including filmmaking, music, design and art. In the post-industrial age, commerce has a purpose to strengthen the community where it thrives. This is the Timberland Boot Company mandate.

Situated in London’s East End, in the Grade II listed building at 1 Fournier Street, Spitalfields, London E1. Trading under the façade of ‘David Kira’ Banana & Tomato salesman who previously occupied the building.
